The AOC Agon AG352UCG is certainly an impressive gaming monitor thanks to the superb visual capabilities of its VA panel and its features. The excellent imaging qualities, G-Sync, and top-notch responsiveness all come together to create an immersive gaming experience you can’t enjoy on 16:9 variants. The physical design may not be as attractive to some users, but it has its merits such as durability and built quality.

Arguably the most desirable gaming monitors of the moment are the range of 34-inch, 21:9 aspect ratio, 100Hz, IPS displays typified by the hugely popular Asus ROG PG348Q and Acer Predator X34A. And, at first glance, the AOC AG352UCG, appears to be yet another in that roster. However, this monitor has two crucial differences.

It’s also difficult to ignore the (at this time projected) retail price of this model, too, which whilst not cheap is certainly more affordable than the competing UltraWide G-SYNC models using overclocked 60Hz IPS panels. Whether the relatively high-contrast VA panel free from ‘IPS glow’ makes for a better experience than the more consistent colours and tighter pixel responsiveness of the IPS alternatives is a matter for debate. But in our view there is a lot to like about the AOC and it certainly warrants careful consideration for Nvidia gamers.

Even if both monitors cost the same amount of money, I’m not sure the AG352UCG does quite enough to come out on top. Its ports don’t offer as much flexibility, its menu is a pain in the backside, and its viewing angles just aren’t quite as good. All in all, the Philips is still my number one choice in this Final Fantasy XII monitor showdown at the moment, but this may well change when Acer’s Predator Z35p steps up to the plate in a couple of days time. All will be revealed shortly.

A curved ultra-wide gaming monitor is going to be expensive no matter what, but the AOC AG352UCG manages to undercut the competition by a little. No corners have been cut however as this display delivers solid gaming performance courtesy of G-Sync and a 100Hz refresh rate. Color accuracy is quite good, and after an easy change to the color temp, everything lines up right to spec. If you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to add one of these screens to your system, the price/performance ratio has never been more attractive.

The AOC AGON AG352UCG is an excellent monitor, offering an immersive experience for games, movies and spreadsheets alike. The 100Hz refresh rate may be a little limiting for fans of fast-paced shooters, but for almost everyone else it’s a nice upgrade from the standard 60Hz fare. The 35-inch curved span of the monitor and solid 3440 x 1440 resolution provide a good middle-ground between sharp image quality and moderate system requirements, too. While this monitor is expensive at over £800, you do get quite a lot for your money.
